Portfolio Manager

A member of the Investment Department, the role of the Portfolio Manager is to direct the portfolio management and investment research process for equities and to identify attractive securities and pooled product for inclusion in client mandates. The Portfolio Manager role is a client facing one and involves sales and marketing responsibilities.

Taking direction and supervision from the Deputy and Head of Investment, and following CCLA’s investment process, they are responsible for portfolio oversight and management together with industry and company analysis as well as the initiation of investments following from such analyses.

  • Participation & leadership in portfolio construction and associated decision- making process.
  • Industry analyses include studying industries in depth by identifying and evaluating key themes and factors that drive long-term industry evolution and value creation.
  • Company analyses include an assessment of a company’s operations, financials and strategic positioning as well as an evaluation of its long-term intrinsic value.
  • Client facing duties to include pitching, PR and supporting the maintenance of client relationships.

Duties

Key accountabilities

  • To provide oversight of the CCLA investment process in respect of equity and alternative strategies, to ensure portfolios are correctly managed and in line with mandate requirements and restrictions.
  • Ensure portfolio management decisions are consistently applied across CCLA’s client mandates
  • Equity research and investment management activities, to include company meetings, research reviews and building company models
  • Ensure CCLA’s global equity selection process is consistently applied
  • Conduct global equity research, consistent with meeting client objectives
  • Ensure clear, unambiguous and timely recommendations
  • Participation in the stock selection process and the development of investment management strategy

Specific duties

  • Participate in the management of asset allocation in accordance with strategic and tactical priorities set by the Head & Deputy Head of Investment, aligning actions with CCLA’s goals, strategy and approach.
  • Conduct regular reviews of funds to assess the fund positions against portfolio objectives and investment needs
  • Facilitate the management of CCLA funds by generating, validating or executing orders as required, in accordance with the investment department procedures and with regard to all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare portfolio analyses and other material to support marketing and client services
  • Communicate with colleagues to ensure that mandate specified return and risk limits are employed efficiently and are consistent with the objectives of the mandate or portfolio
  • Participate in assessment of new opportunities, benchmark specifications and implementation approaches
  • Follow the in-house global stock selection process
  • Manage, review and improve CCLA's global equity selection process
  • Proactively drive forward sector/stock specific research initiatives
  • Actively monitor positions through earnings results
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure stock positions are correctly calibrated and that stock recommendations are delivered on a timely basis
  • Work with client relationship managers, where required, to report and present to clients
  • Be involved with client pitching and reporting as required.
  • Implement CCLA’s policies and procedures in regards to the integration of environmental social and governance factors
  • Collaborate with CCLA’s Ethical and Responsible Investment Team in the delivery of stewardship programmes
  • Maintain knowledge of current market events, to include an understanding of the macro-economic environment and other factors affecting stock prices.
  • Attend internal committees and briefings as appropriate

Qualifications & experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in investment management
  • Educated to degree level, preferably in a relevant subject
  • CFA or equivalent qualification
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg (AIM), CS HOLT
  • Familiarity with quantitative programmes
